CBI to investigate case of death of father and son in Tuticorin: Center releases notification

Tamil Nadu, Tuticorin: Center has issued a notification to hand over the investigation of the death of father and son to the CBI. The state government gave this information on Tuesday. Earlier, Chief Minister K Palaniswamy sent a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah requesting the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate of Jayaraj and Benicks death case.

An official release notice said, "The Central Government has now issued a notification (regarding handing over the investigation to the CBI)." Palaniswamy wrote a letter to the Home Minister after announcing the CBI probe recently. The CB-CID (Crime Investigation Department) is currently investigating the case on the instructions of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court.
So far five policemen including an inspector have been arrested in this case. Benicks and Jayaraj died on 22 and 23 June respectively following the alleged torture of the Satanakulam police in Tuticorin district. Both of them were arrested on 19 June for allegedly violating prohibitory orders enforced due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
