6 cops suspended for Assaulting Dalit farmer couple in Guna

The Madhya Pradesh government suspends six cops in connection with the beating of a farmer couple in Guna of Madhya Pradesh. The incident took place on Tuesday. Policemen, who arrived in Guna Cantt area to take possession of the college land, beaten the dalit couple with sticks and destroyed their crop.
The farmer couple then drank pesticide. Police had lathi-charged the farmers' relatives. Earlier, the Shivraj Singh Chauhan government ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter. Taking immediate action on Wednesday, Chief Minister Shivraj ordered the removal of the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Guna.
The video of the beating of the farmer couple has gone viral on social media. It is seen in the video that the police not only beat up the men, but also lathi-charged women and children. Torn women's clothes too.
In protest against the police action, the Dalit farmer couple drank the pesticide at the scene and both were hospitalized in critical condition. The opposition party Congress on Thursday constituted a seven-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter.

The team will reach Guna tomorrow and submit a report after investigating the entire case. The team included former state home minister Bala Bachchan, state Congress acting president Ram Nivas Rawat, former minister Jayawardhan Singh, former MLA Phool Singh Baraiya, state Congress acting president Surendra Chaudhary, MLA Heera and state Congress spokesperson Vibha Patel.
