India bans 59 Chinese apps for privacy concerns and data protection
Credit: fakeadco[/caption]on Monday, Indian government banned 59 mobile apps from China, including apps such as the popular TikTok and UC Browser. The government said that these apps are harmful to the sovereignty, integrity and national security of the country.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Information Technology said that it had received many complaints regarding these apps. Reports were received about the use of these apps available on Android and IOS platforms, these apps were stealing consumers' data to status servers outside India.
The Ministry has said in its statement that under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act, under the provisions of the Information Technology Act (Procedure and Safeguard for Blocking of Access of Information by Public), Rules 2009 and in view of the contingent nature of the threats, 59 apps are banned.
According to the available information, activities were being carried out through these apps which are prejudicial to India's sovereignty and integrity, defense of India, security of the state and public order. To ban these apps, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, Ministry of Home Affairs and all the security agencies were also recommended.
Among the banned apps are 59 apps like Tik-Tok, UC Browser, Cam Scanner, WeChat, etc. Indian security agencies had reported that China can hack Indian data through these apps. It was stated by the government that there were increased concerns about the aspects related to data security and the privacy protection of 130 crore Indians. It has recently been noted that the sovereignty and security of our country is also threatened by such concerns.
