National Conference moves court for release of their 16 detained leaders

The National Conference Leader approached the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, requesting early release of 16 members of the detained party members in their homes since August 5 last year. The Center had on August 5 last year announced withdrawal of special status to the erstwhile state.
According to a statement issued by the party, NC Speaker and Lok Sabha member Farooq Abdullah and NC Vice President Omar Abdullah filed habeas corpus petitions challenging the unconstitutional and illegal detention of senior leaders and officials.
According to the statement, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has petitioned for the release of Ali Mohammad Sagar, Abdul Rahim Rather, Nasir Aslam Wani, Aga Syed Mahmood, Mohammad Khalil Band, Irfan Shah and Sami Firdaus.
Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has challenged the detention of Mohammed Shafi Uri, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Mubarak Gul, Vashir Veeri, Abdul Majeed Larami, Basharat Bukhari, Saifuddin Bhatt and Mohammed Shafi.
