5 youths brutally assaulted by gang of 20 in Shillong


In a violent incident, five youth all in the age group of 20 years to 24 years were brutally assaulted by a group of masked miscreants in Lawsohtun, Shillong. This act of brutally is suspected to be a hatecrime. According to reports, since lockdown the five boys came everyday to play basketball at Lawsohtun block VI court.

The five boys have been identified as Arindam Das(22) of Laban, Saptarshi(20) and Subharshi Das Purkayastha(22) both resident of Last Stop, Pinak Deb(23) resident of Mawbah and Bishal Ghosh(24) resident of Lachumiere.

The miscreants numbering around 20 persons were armed with iron rods and bamboo sticks locked the caged arena of the basketball court and brutally attacked on the nine boys with iron rods and sticks.

According to one of the witnesses, the person mentioned that the basketball court was soaked in blood. The miscreants were armed and had locked the entrance of the court to avoid the boys from escaping while attacking them.

The injured boys somehow managed to escape and were taken to Woodland Hospital. However, they have been discharged after the treatment. Some of them have sustained fractures of the limbs, while other suffered head injuries.

FIR filed by parents of three boys alleged that the assault was unprovoked and brutal.
