Coronavirus Cases in India Cross 11,000 Mark in 24 Hours

India has recorded the highest single-day rise so far of 11,458 fresh cases, pushing the total number of cases to 3,08,993 according to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry. India has the fourth-highest number of coronavirus cases among the 10 most affected nations by coronavirus. The death count rose to 8,884 with a single-day spike of 386 fatalities.

Maharashtra, the worst coronavirus-hit state in India, has crossed the one-lakh mark after it reported 3,493 cases on Friday. Delhi's tally of coronavirus cases crossed the 36,000-mark as the number of deaths due to the virus climbed to 1,214, authorities said.

Tamil Nadu's tally has crossed 40,000 with 1,982 people testing positive over the last 24 hours. Chennai continues to the the Covid-19 epicentre in the state with 71 percent of the casesin Tamil Nadu being reported from the city. On Friday, authorities filed a case against 40 people for violating quarantine rules by stepping out their homes.

India's recovery rate - the number of patients who have successfully fought the viral illness - stood at 49.94 percent this morning. 1,54,330 people have recovered, the Health Ministry has said.
