Chhattisgarh: Two including BJP leader arrested for allegedly supporting Naxalites

A local BJP leader and another person have been arrested in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh for being naxali supporter. The police gave this information on Sunday. Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava said the accused have been identified as Jagat Pujari and Ramesh Usendi (32), who were arrested on Saturday. The accused bought a tractor to deliver to a Naxalite.

He said that pujari, a native of Barsur village, is the vice president of the Dantewada district unit of the BJP. He said that confidential information was received that some Naxalites from Abujhmad area had given money to buy some items to Ajay Man, the militia commander-in-chief, active in the Indravati area committee of Naxalites.

After this, the police took action. Pallava said that police kept a watch on some suspects, including pujari. He said, 'On Saturday afternoon, the police saw a newly purchased tractor trolley on Barsur-Chitrakote road and caught Usendi, a resident of Orchha area in neighboring Narayanpur district when he was allegedly going to deliver vehicles to the Naxalites. He said that during interrogation Usendi told that the Naxalite man had given him four lakh rupees to buy a tractor and he was told that the pujari would help him in this work.

After this, pujari was arrested from Barsoor. He said that he has acknowledged the involvement of Naxalites in various things in the area earlier. Pallava said that a case has been registered against him under the provisions of the Chhattisgarh Special Public Safety Act, 2005 and the matter is being investigated.

He said that the Naxalites have been facing shortage of ration and other essential commodities since the full ban. Meanwhile, BJP district unit president Chataram Atami said that senior state leaders of the party have informed about the development and they will decide to take action against jagat pujari at the party level.
